new method to apply vertical green wall system 

Recently, a special toilet building decorated with vertical garden plants appeared in Fengtai District, Beijing. All the exterior walls have been divided into grids of different sizes, where have been implanted with begonia, alternanthera and other plants. The designer gave it a fancy name as “horticultural art toilet”.

Generally, it is regarded that the public toilet is dirty, messy and smelly. However, this newly-built toilet in Beijing is fully covered by different plants, which looks like a colorful living plant cube from a distance.The designer divided the exterior wall into different size grids, and chose red and white begonia, red and green alternanthera, and light green sedum lineare to fill in the grids.

After the workers planting them into each grid, every grid become a single color block. So, the whole building is made up of multiple pieces of colorful blocks.

This “horticultural art toilet” creates a harmonious and distinctive urban space by   making the most of the surrounding. It realizes a complex combination of nature beauty and ecological functions. This is the energy of horticultural art, which can bring us a better home by forming our life and environment in union.
